We strive to offer great walking holidays, but there is nothing better than asking one of our walkers why they keep coming back. Over to you, Sue.
I've done 2 Malaga long weekends with Phil and guide Julia. I'm booked in for my third trip in November 2024. Here's why I keep coming back;
Hassle-free - I love that once I get to Malaga, I can relax straight away. Phil meets us at the airport, and after a brief stop off at a local supermarket for extra pack lunch provisions, we head to our hotel, Arco del Sol, where a warm welcome awaits.
Expert support - I was quite anxious about walking in the heat on my first visit in April. But, on Day 1 of arrival, Phil talked us through walks for the week and then adapted the schedule depending on weather conditions. I liked that we took frequent breaks during the walks to hydrate and get a bit of shade.
Personal challenges - although a regular walker in the UK, I'd never taken on anything very challenging. Phil is adept at observing the group and gauging the walks for everyone's ability. We scrambled Tajos de Gomer in April and descended the Spanish steps in November. I would never have tackled these on my own. I feel much more confident in my walking abilities, and I trust Phil's judgement. This coming year, I've signed up to do Saltillo Suspension Bridge, which is a big step for this vertigo-challenged walker.
Local history and culture - it's really nice to be off the beaten track. Phil is great at showing his guests the countryside he loves and introducing us to fab tapas, bars, and historic sites. We have a group kitty for drinks and snacks, which seems to stretch a long way in the local hostelries. The Teba Castle walk is my favourite for a great mix of countryside and history. The postwalk tapas were spot on, too.
Variety - I thought the walks would all be quite similar. Turns out there is a lot of variety and you can combine coastal walks with inland walks and really get a sense of the whole region. I liked walking from Frigiliana in November. The sea views were fabulous, and the cold beer on return to the village was very welcome.
Friendly and personal - what a joy it is to feel so welcome and to be looked after from start to finish. Staying at Arco del Sol is a delight. Antonio and his family can't help enough. Evening meals either on the patio in the evening sun or in front of the log burner fire in November are a highlight of my trip.
This year, I'm heading back with a different group of friends to enjoy three new walks. I know they'll enjoy Andalusia on Foot as much as I do.
